Help for people with Lymphoedema

Lymphoedema practitioners work in a variety of settings including public and private hospitals, private clinics and individual practices.

There are a wide variety of modalities used to treat lymphoedema including:

• Self treatment

• Specialised massage

• Exercise therapy

• Compression garments

• Bandaging

• Other adjunct therapies

Individual practitioners may offer all or only some of these modalities. Lymphoedema practitioners on this register are encouraged to communicate with other health disciplines to enable holistic care.

Use the NLPR to:

• Quickly and easily locate practitioners in your area.

• Have confidence that the practitioners listed have undertaken appropriate specialised training in lymphoedema management as recognised by the Australasian Lymphology Association training guidelines.

• Have confidence that the practitioners have undertaken recent professional development to ensure they deliver current best practice.

• Find a practitioner that offers the services you require.

Information for Health Professionals

Use the NLPR to:

• Quickly and easily identify public and private lymphoedema services and their referral requirements.

• Identify the undergraduate qualification of individual practitioners. This information can be used to determine any rebates available to the client.

• Confidently refer a client to a suitable lymphoedema practitioner.

• Determine the capacity of an individual practitioner to provide specific aspects of service e.g. provision of intensive massage and bandaging treatments
