About the Lymphoedema Practitioners on this Register
Lymphoedema Practitioner Categories
There are two categories of NLPR registration:
| • | Category 1. Practitioners who fulfil the initial prerequisites (category 1) | |
| › | Medical Practitioners | |
| › | Nurses (Division 1) | |
| › | Occupational Therapists | |
| › | Physiotherapists | |
| • | These practitioners may provide initial & ongoing assessment of people who have lymphoedema and provide treatment for lymphoedema including initial assessment of complex or undiagnosed lymphoedema. | |
| • | The type of treatment provided by these practitioners will depend on the scope of practice of their specific undergraduate and post graduate training as well as the practitioner’s level of lymphoedema management training. | |
| • | Category 2. Practitioners who fulfil the initial prerequisites (category 2) | |
| › | Massage Therapists | |
| • | These practitioners may provide ongoing assessment and treatment for lymphoedema clients who have been assessed by a category 1 therapist or a medical practitioner. | |
| • | The type of treatment provided by these practitioners will depend on the scope of practice of their specific undergraduate and post graduate training as well as the practitioner’s level of lymphoedema management training. | |
Registration
Registration is for a period of 12 months, after which the lymphoedema practitioner is required to re-register. Practitioners must provide information on their Lymphoedema Continuing Professional Development every two years.
NLPR Code of Conduct for Lymphoedema Practitioners
Practitioners listed on the NLPR must abide by the code of conduct of the professional body with which they are registered.

For medical practitioners, occupational therapists, physiotherapists and registered nurses (division 1) this will be their relevant government registration board.

Massage therapists must abide by the code of conduct of the Association to which they belong.

Occupational Therapists practising in states not covered by government registration must abide by the OT Australia Code of Ethics.
